Established early in 1982, the archive was formerly housed in the library of Royal Holloway University of London, and was moved to the Bodleian Library in early 2010.
It contains photocopies of original manuscript scores (most of which are now situated in the British Library) and private recordings (now mostly on CD) of live and broadcast performances, as well as articles, reviews, books, programme notes and broadcasts by Dr Simpson and others, press cuttings and sundry Simpsoniana. It is open to anybody to researchers, bona fide students and members of the Robert Simpson Society.
Music special collections are located in the Bodleian Library at the Weston Library, searchable online via SOLO, the Libraries’ online catalogue.
Martin Holmes, Alfred Brendel Curator of Music, Bodleian Libraries Oxford, is the person to contact about the archive. He is on the committee of the Robert Simpson Society. Contact.
